David Cone

He is a five time World Series Champion and All Star; He was awarded the 1994 AL Cy Young Award

David Cone is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher who enjoyed a highly successful career spanning from 1986 to 2003. Drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the third round of the 1981 MLB Draft, Cone went on to play for five different teams, including the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays. Known for his right-handed pitching and left-handed batting, Cone became one of the most dominant pitchers of his era. His ability to consistently deliver under pressure made him a key player in both regular season and postseason games, earning him a reputation as a clutch performer.

One of the most remarkable moments in Cone's career came in 1999 when he pitched the sixteenth perfect game in MLB history. This achievement solidified his place among the elite pitchers of the game. Additionally, Cone's 19-strikeout performance in the final game of the 1991 regular season remains one of the most impressive single-game feats, tying him for the second-most strikeouts in a game. His dominance on the mound was further highlighted by his three consecutive seasons (1990-1992) leading the major leagues in strikeouts, showcasing his ability to overpower hitters consistently.

Cone's career was also marked by his success in the postseason, where he was a member of five World Series championship teams. He won his first title with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1992 and later added four more championships with the New York Yankees in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000. His postseason record of 8–3 over 21 games, with a 2.12 ERA in World Series play, underscores his ability to perform at the highest level when it mattered most. Cone's contributions to these championship teams were invaluable, and his leadership on the mound was a key factor in their success.

Beyond his playing career, Cone has remained involved in the game as a color commentator for the New York Yankees on the YES Network and Amazon Prime, as well as for ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. His deep understanding of the game and ability to articulate the nuances of pitching have made him a respected voice in baseball broadcasting. Cone has also co-authored the autobiography "Full Count: The Education of a Pitcher," which became a New York Times Best Seller, further cementing his legacy as both a player and a student of the game.
