The Charlotte Hornets are a professional basketball team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Hornets were founded in 1988 and began playing in the league in the 1988-1989 season. The team's colors are teal, purple, and white, and they have had several notable players throughout their history, including Muggsy Bogues, Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, Glen Rice, and Kemba Walker.
The Hornets had a brief hiatus from Charlotte between 2002 and 2004 when the team relocated and became the New Orleans Hornets (now the New Orleans Pelicans). In 2004, Charlotte was awarded a new NBA expansion team, which reclaimed the name "Charlotte Bobcats." The Bobcats then officially became the Charlotte Hornets again in 2014, reclaiming the original team name and history.
