Tony Romo

He is a NFL fan favorite and leader of the Dallas Cowboys

Antonio Ramiro Romo, better known as Tony Romo, is a former professional football quarterback who spent his entire 13-season NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys. Born on April 21, 1980, Romo played college football at Eastern Illinois University, where he led the Panthers to an Ohio Valley Conference championship appearance in 2001. His standout college career earned him the prestigious Walter Payton Award in 2002, recognizing him as the top offensive player in Division I-AA football. Despite his collegiate success, Romo went undrafted in the 2003 NFL Draft but was signed by the Cowboys as a free agent, marking the beginning of a remarkable career.

Romo's early years in the NFL were spent as a backup, but he became the Cowboys' starting quarterback in 2006. Over the next decade, Romo established himself as one of the most prolific passers in franchise history. He led the Cowboys to four playoff appearances and earned Pro Bowl selections in each of those seasons. Known for his ability to extend plays and his strong arm, Romo set numerous team records, including most career passing touchdowns and passing yards. His leadership on the field and his knack for making clutch plays made him a fan favorite, even though postseason success often eluded him.

One of Romo's most impressive statistical achievements was his performance in the fourth quarter. From 2006 to 2013, he held the highest passer rating in the NFL during the final quarter of games, a testament to his poise under pressure. However, despite his regular-season success, Romo's playoff record was less stellar, with only two wins in six postseason appearances. His inability to advance beyond the divisional round became a point of criticism, but his overall contributions to the Cowboys' offense remain undeniable. Romo retired after the 2016 season following a back injury that led to his replacement by rookie Dak Prescott.

After retiring from professional football, Romo transitioned seamlessly into broadcasting, becoming the lead color analyst for CBS Sports' NFL telecasts. His insightful commentary and ability to predict plays before they happen have earned him widespread acclaim in his new role. Romo's football IQ and engaging personality have made him one of the most popular analysts in the sport today. In 2021, Romo was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, further solidifying his legacy as one of the most accomplished quarterbacks to come out of Eastern Illinois University.
