He continued to lead the team to success in the 2013 season, reaching the NFC Championship Game. Kaepernick's decision to kneel during the national anthem in 2016 led to widespread controversy and ultimately affected his NFL career. In 2017, Kaepernick filed a grievance against the NFL, accusing team owners of colluding to keep him out of the league.
