Kelley O'Hara

A 2012 Olympic Soccer Gold Medalists, she won the Hermann Trophy while playing for Stanford

Kelley Maureen O'Hara is a highly accomplished former professional soccer player who made a significant impact on both the international and club stages. Born on August 4, 1988, O'Hara represented the United States Women's National Team (USWNT) in 160 matches, contributing to two FIFA Women's World Cup victories and an Olympic gold medal. Known for her versatility, she primarily played as a wingback but also demonstrated her attacking prowess, having played as a forward during her college years at Stanford University. Her intensity and leadership on the field made her a key figure in the USWNT's success over more than a decade.

O'Hara's collegiate career was nothing short of remarkable. While playing for the Stanford Cardinal, she won the prestigious Hermann Trophy in 2009, awarded to the best college soccer player in the United States. Her professional career began with FC Gold Pride and the Boston Breakers in the now-defunct Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league. When the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) was established in 2013, O'Hara joined NJ/NY Gotham FC (formerly Sky Blue FC), where she spent the majority of her club career. She also had stints with Utah Royals FC and Washington Spirit, where she scored the decisive goal in the 2021 NWSL Championship.

Internationally, O'Hara was a mainstay for the USWNT from 2010 to 2023, participating in four FIFA Women's World Cups. She played a crucial role in the team's triumphs in 2015 and 2019, helping the U.S. secure back-to-back titles. O'Hara also competed in three Olympic Games, winning gold in 2012 and bronze in 2020. Her ability to adapt to different positions and her relentless work ethic made her an invaluable asset to the national team. In 2019, she was named to the FIFA FIFPRO Women's World 11, further solidifying her status as one of the top players in the world.

In 2024, O'Hara announced her retirement from professional soccer, marking the end of an illustrious career. Unfortunately, her final season was cut short due to chronic knee degeneration, and she was placed on the season-ending injury list in September 2024. Despite this, her legacy as one of the most versatile and dedicated players in U.S. soccer history remains intact. O'Hara's contributions to the sport, both at the club and international levels, will be remembered for years to come.
