Burnett was drafted in the eighth round of the 1995 draft by the New York Mets. He made his major league debut in 1999 with the Marlins. Besides the Marlins, Burnett has played for the Blue Jays, Yankees, and Pirates.
On May 12, 2001, Burnett threw his first no hitter. In 2002, he led the NL in shutouts and the following year he led the AL in strikeouts. He was also a starting pitcher for the 2003 World Series Champion Marlins and the 2009 World Series Champion Yankees.
