Burnett was drafted in the eighth round of the 1995 draft by the New York Mets. He made his major league debut in 1999 with the Marlins. Besides the Marlins, Burnett has played for the Blue Jays, Yankees, and Pirates.
On May 12, 2001, Burnett threw his first no hitter. In 2002, he led the NL in shutouts and the following year he led the AL in strikeouts. He was also a starting pitcher for the 2003 World Series Champion Marlins and the 2009 World Series Champion Yankees.
He has been named to the MLB All-Star team multiple times
He was the 2008 AL Rookie of the Year; He was a part of the 2007 gold medal winning USA National Team at the Baseball World Cup
