Phil Simms

He is a two time Super Bowl Champion and was named the Super Bowl XXI MVP

Phillip Martin Simms, born on November 3, 1955, is a former professional football quarterback who made a significant impact in the National Football League (NFL) during his 14-season career with the New York Giants. After a standout college career at Morehead State University, Simms was selected as the seventh overall pick in the 1979 NFL Draft by the Giants. His leadership and skill on the field were instrumental in the Giants' success, particularly during their Super Bowl XXI victory, where Simms delivered one of the most memorable performances in Super Bowl history.

Simms' performance in Super Bowl XXI remains legendary, as he set the record for the highest completion percentage in a Super Bowl, completing 22 of 25 passes for an 88% completion rate. He also achieved the highest passer rating in a Super Bowl at 150.9, a record that still stands today. His efforts earned him the Super Bowl MVP award, solidifying his place in NFL history. Simms was also named to the Pro Bowl twice, in 1985 and 1993, further showcasing his consistency and excellence as a quarterback.

Throughout his career, Simms accumulated 33,462 passing yards, a testament to his longevity and effectiveness as a passer. After retiring from professional football, Simms transitioned into a successful broadcasting career, working as an analyst for ESPN before becoming a color commentator for NBC and CBS. His insights and experience have made him a respected voice in NFL broadcasting, and he continued to contribute to the sport in this capacity until his departure from CBS in 2024.

Simms is also the father of two former NFL quarterbacks, Chris Simms and Matt Simms, both of whom have followed in their father's footsteps in the world of football. Chris Simms has since transitioned into a career as an NFL analyst, while Matt Simms has pursued coaching. Phillip Simms' legacy in football, both on and off the field, remains strong, and his contributions to the game continue to be celebrated.
