The Tampa Bay Rays are a professional baseball team based in St. Petersburg, Florida. In November 2007, majority owner Stuart Sternberg made significant changes to his franchise's image, changing the club's name from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to the "Tampa Bay Rays", which he described as "a beacon that radiates throughout Tampa Bay and across the entire state of Florida."
He was a 12 time All Star and won the Silver Slugger award 8 times. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005.
He was the 2008 AL Rookie of the Year; He was a part of the 2007 gold medal winning USA National Team at the Baseball World Cup
He miraculously turned the Rays franchise around; He led the Rays to the 2008 World Series
