Drafted by the Boston Celtics with the sixth overall pick in the 1978 NBA Draft, Bird chose to finish his college career before joining the NBA in the 1979–80 season. In 2003, Bird became the Pacers' president of basketball operations, a position he held until 2012, when he was named NBA Executive of the Year.
