He was an integral member of the 2008 MLB Champion Phillies; He was named MVP of the 2008 World Series

Colbert Michael Hamels, known as "Hollywood," is a former professional baseball pitcher who made a significant impact in Major League Baseball (MLB). Born on December 27, 1983, in San Diego, California, Hamels was a standout athlete at Rancho Bernardo High School, excelling both academically and athletically. His talent on the mound caught the attention of the Philadelphia Phillies, who selected him in the first round of the 2002 MLB Draft. Despite early setbacks in the minor leagues, including injuries and off-field incidents, Hamels quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the top pitcher in the Phillies' minor league system by 2006.

Hamels made his MLB debut with the Phillies in May 2006, and by the following year, he had established himself as one of the team's top pitchers. His breakout moment came in 2008 when he led the Phillies to a World Series championship, earning the World Series Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award for his dominant performances. That same year, Hamels signed a three-year contract extension with the Phillies, solidifying his role as a cornerstone of the team's pitching staff. Although his performance dipped in the following seasons, Hamels remained a key figure in the Phillies' rotation, especially during the team's successful years alongside fellow All-Star pitchers Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, and Roy Oswalt.

In 2015, Hamels was traded to the Texas Rangers, where he immediately made an impact, helping the team secure the American League West title. His time with the Rangers included an All-Star season in 2016, further cementing his reputation as one of the league's premier pitchers. After a brief stint with the Chicago Cubs in 2018 and 2019, Hamels signed with the Atlanta Braves in 2020. Unfortunately, injuries limited his playing time, and after two unsuccessful comeback attempts, Hamels officially announced his retirement from professional baseball in 2023.

Hamels' career is marked by his resilience, leadership, and ability to perform on the biggest stages. His contributions to the Phillies' 2008 World Series victory and his consistent excellence over the years have left a lasting legacy in MLB. He remains a respected figure in the sport, known for his work ethic and competitive spirit.
