He was a consensus five-star prospect, and one of the top-rated basketball players in the class of 2017. He won the 2019 Slam Dunk Contest. == High school career == Diallo attended John Bowne High School in Flushing, New York during his freshman and sophomore year. He also attended Putnam Science Academy. As a sophomore, he averaged 17.1 points, 6.6 rebounds per game, and 2.7 assists. During the 2015 summer, Diallo competed on the Under Armour Association Circuit (UAA) for the AAU team, New York Jayhawks, where he averaged 22.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Later that summer, Diallo was invited to both the NBPA Top 100 and Adidas Nations camps. Diallo transferred to Putnam Science Academy in Putnam, Connecticut prior to his junior year. As a junior, he averaged 17.0 points per game and 4.0 rebounds while leading Putnam to a record of 35-7. He also competed in the NBPA Top 100 and Adidas Nations camps during the summer of his junior year. In his senior year, Diallo was named a McDonald's All-American and Jordan Brand Classic All-American. He was also selected to play in the Nike Hoop Summit. Diallo ultimately decided to forgo his senior year of high school and enroll at the University of Kentucky. == College career == Diallo redshirted his first year at Kentucky, but still practiced with the team. In his redshirt freshman year, he played in 37 games and averaged 10.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. He was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and helped lead Kentucky to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. == Professional career == After his freshman year, Diallo declared for the 2018 NBA Draft but ultimately withdrew his name and returned to Kentucky for his sophomore year. In his sophomore year, he played in 37 games and averaged 13.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. He was named to the All-SEC Second Team and helped lead Kentucky to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament. On June 21, 2018, Diallo was selected with the 45th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Brooklyn Nets. He was later traded to the Charlotte Hornets and then to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Diallo signed a two-way contract with the Thunder on July 5, 2018. He spent most of his rookie season playing for the Oklahoma City Blue, the Thunder's G League affiliate. On January 6, 2019, Diallo made his NBA debut and recorded 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in a win against the Washington Wizards. He went on to win the 2019 Slam Dunk Contest during NBA All-Star Weekend. On July 7, 2019, Diallo signed a two-year contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He played in 46 games during the 2019-2020 season, averaging 6.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. On November 22, 2020, Diallo was traded to the Detroit Pistons. He played in 20 games for the Pistons before being traded to the New York Knicks on March 25, 2021. Diallo was waived by the Knicks on April 7, 2021 and signed with the Capital City Go-Go of the NBA G League on April 9, 2021. He has since played for the Go-Go and has also had multiple stints with the Pistons.
